ABOUT ALLAN
My name is Allan April. I was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I'm an aspiring reporter, video journalist, producer, camera operator, editor of video and audio and multi-media storyteller. I will be graduating from Nova Scotia Community College in June 2015 with a diploma in Broadcast Journalism. NSCC's Radio and Television Arts program has given me the opportunity to learn many new skills, and apply them, in the production of our campus TV show, Waterfront TV, as well as over 10 weeks of internships at CTV Atlantic, Global Halifax and Eastlink TV.
I have a passion for sports, and have had the opportunity to work in sports broadcasting from my time volunteering and interning with Eastlink TV. Most recently I worked as Host and Sideline Reporter of Eastlink's broadcasts of Halifax Rainmen basketball games. I also have experience working play-by-play commentary and public address announcing of basketball, soccer and volleyball at the University level (AUS and ACAA). My career goal is to be a sports broadcaster and continue to tell positive stories.
I'm also interested and knowledgable in news, politics and entertainment. I have a passion for storytelling and technology, and love learning new things. I am a capable camera operator on large format cameras (Panasonic HPX 170 & 370) as well as DSLR cameras, and I am proficient with Adobe Creative Suite 6 (Premiere, Audition, After Effects, Photoshop), Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, and Grass Valley Edius/ Aurora Non-Linear Editing Software. My time in RTA has also taught me how to operate switchers, microphones, audio mixers and radio consoles, as well as scripting software such as QSeries, Burli, and EPSN. I have also produced and written content for various websites and blogs and am proficient with Microsoft Office 365, Wordpress, Weebly, Blogger and more.
